I have just returned from Dunelm Mill Store, Birkenshaw, Uddingston. I had ordered a flat sheet and a fitted sheet in ruby pink and a platform valance which I chose in ruby red (different colour) because it had a valance drop that matched the height of my bed base. The fitted sheet and the flat sheet were perfect.The platform valance I received (which was not the one I ordered) was in ruby pink and was 2 inches short. I then went back to the store to get a refund. I was told that bedding could not be refunded. However the assistant at the checkout point said she would consult her manager. She then went to check my order made online as I had said that the valance was not the one I ordered. She returned with a second assistant whom she had advised that the three items I had ordered were in ruby. The three items were of course ordered in ruby but the valance was ordered in ruby red and not ruby pink. I was told that once you unpack an item of bedding that you cannot return it as it has been on your bed. I then asked well how do you know if it fits if you do not put it over your bed base. I was told that I should measure it. I assured them that I had measured the base of my bed and ordered the ruby red in order that the drop would fit. A third assistant then arrived and joined in the debate. By this time I had been at the checkout point for 20 minutes with all around listening to the debate. The third assistant was then told that it was her call. She just shrugged her shoulders and didn’t know what to say. In the end I was refunded. What an ordeal.My husband and I then returned home to double check the depth of our bed base. Indeed the valance should have fitted as the drop was 15 inches (the same as the valance). Our conclusion is that the width of the sheeting area of the valance was not sewn up to a full double bed width and that it had nothing to do with the drop on the valance but everything to do with the width of the sheeting area attached to the valance.However, the way the Dunelm assistants handled the whole incident has left a bad taste in my mouth. They have lost a good Dunelm customer. I will not be ordering from Dunelm at any time in the future.
